Basketball – Group Description
GROUP 1 (Ages 6-9)
Teaching basketball fundamentals in a positive, fun, and safe environment where students will have a lot of fun while learning basketball fundamentals. Our goal is to teach and intensify their love towards the game, optimize the skill level of kids at an early age and increase each player’s self-esteem.
GROUP 2 (Ages 10-12)
60% of the time will be spent on skills training and 40% of the time will be spent on the competition. Coaches will work on skills development and will teach defensive position concepts and motion offense.
GROUP 3 (Ages 13-14)
Optimize fitness preparation as well as basketball, individual and position-specific skills (continue to maximize the “engine” of skills and performance). The training to competition ratio now changes to 70:30. 70% of available time is devoted to the development of player technical/tactical skills and fitness improvements, with the other 30% devoted to competition and team-oriented practices.
Swimming – Group Description
GROUP 1 (Ages 6-9)
Teaching the fundamentals of swimming, along with loads of fun games and competitions. Pool safety is maintained to the highest level and taught through several safety drills which are constantly rehearsed throughout the session. Every camper is assigned their own level for swimming at the beginning of camp for Instructional and Safety purposes.
GROUP 2 (Ages 10-12)
More intense level of swim training, along with a higher amount of Swim Competitions, Water Polo games, and Basic Water Safety Instruction. Every camper is assigned their own level of swimming at the beginning of camp for Instructional and Safety purposes. Campers will begin to learn how to avoid or act in certain dangerous situations involving water.
GROUP 3 (Ages 13-14)
More rigorous training involving Swimming and Aquatic Strength and Resistance. Workouts will focus mainly on Swimming but also have Basketball oriented drills for strength and conditioning. Campers will also be assigned a level for swimming at the beginning of camp for Instructional and Safety purposes. Stronger focus on training, but will have plenty of Basic Water Safety training, as well as Water Polo and Volleyball Games.
Strength & Conditioning – Group Description
GROUP 1 (Ages 6-9)
Participants will learn fundamentals and basic skills about fitness. They will be training to build up muscle, cardio endurance, and flexibility in a fun way.
GROUP 2 (Ages 10-12)
Participants will learn many different calisthenics workouts to build muscle, cardio endurance, and flexibility. They will learn about different muscle groups, how to build muscle and how to take care of their muscles. They will be ready physically for the next level of basketball.
GROUP 3 (Ages 13-14)
Participants will learn many different calisthenics, lift weights, become more aware of their muscles and how to build muscle. They will be put in a daily fitness program that they will follow. The goal of the program is to help them reach the next level in basketball.
Coaching Staff
Giorgi Koguashvili – (29) is the founder of Brooklyn Basketball Academy. Giorgi played for his U16 Georgian Basketball National Team and moved to the USA at the age of 17 to continue his career in the USA. He then went to Mountain State Academy in Beckley, West Virginia, where he played for one of the top 25 varsity teams in the country. As a senior, Gio played for Hamilton Heights Christian Academy (Ranked top 5 schools in the country) in Tennessee, where he averaged 19.5 Points and 6.5 Rebound and became a Hall of Famer for the school. He then received a full athletic scholarship to Union University in Jackson, TN where he started 10 consecutive games as a freshman before his back injury. During his junior year, Gio transferred to University Minnesota at Crookston with a full basketball scholarship, where he pursued his bachelor’s degree in Economics. Giorgi has six years of coaching experience at all levels and has been director of basketball operations at World Sports Camp where he coached over 100 kids and oversaw/trained young coaches during the summer. Besides English, George speaks in Georgian and Russian languages.
Aleksandr Solovyev – (24) Director of Aquatics at FIAO IL Centro. Head Coach for FIAO Swim Team Prep and Junior Water Polo. Creator of Swimming Curriculum for FIAO Aquatics Group Swim Classes Program, Private Swim Lessons and more. Played Water Polo for King Bay Y Water Polo Club for 10 years and participated in Junior Olympics tournaments in 2011-2013.
Over 10 years of experience as a Swim Teacher/Coach and 4 years of experience as a NYC Surf School Instructor.
Kyle Fargado – (26) is currently J.V. Head Coach at Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School. He is a USA Basketball Licensed coach and an ISSA certified personal trainer. Kyle’s focus is teaching kids discipline and ways that basketball translate to real life. He is a great mentor and teacher for young athletes, Kyle has great ability to explain and demonstrate so players can understand what needs to be done during the drills. Kyle has been a coach at Brooklyn Basketball Academy for over 3 years.
Luka Gurgenidze – (20) is a former basketball player and a coach. He has been with Brooklyn Basketball Academy for over a year and has demonstrated great abilities to relate with students in a positive way. He has great knowledge of the game and skills to teach and demonstrate drills for younger athletes. Luka coached at FIAO for last year’s summer camp, and we are excited to have him back.
Anthony Vasile – (31) Coach Anthony has been teaching children, teenagers and adults in physical education, physical activity and coaching for 13 years. He is very knowledgeable in all sports, strength and conditioning and team games.
