Age Groupings and Objectives

Kids Ages 6-14

Basketball

6-8 Years Old

(Group 1)

Teaching basketball fundamentals in a positive, fun, and safe environment where students will have a lot of fun while learning basketball fundamentals. Our goal is to teach and intensify their love towards the game, optimize the skill level of kids at an early age and increase each player’s self-esteem.

Basketball

10-12 Years Old

(Group 2)

60% of the time will be spent on skills training and 40% of the time will be spent on the competition. Coaches will work on skills development and will teach defensive position concepts and motion offense.

Basketball

13 & 14 Years Old

(Group 3)

Optimize fitness preparation as well as basketball, individual and position-specific skills (continue to maximize the “engine” of skills and performance). The training to competition ratio now changes to 70:30. 70% of available time is devoted to the development of player technical/tactical skills and fitness improvements, with the other 30% devoted to competition and team-oriented practices.

Strength & Conditioning

6-8 Years Old

(Group 1)

Participants will learn fundamentals and basic skills about fitness. They will be training to build up muscle, cardio endurance, and flexibility in a fun way.

Strength & Conditioning

10-12 Years Old

(Group 2)

Participants will learn many different calisthenic workouts to build muscle, cardio endurance and flexibility. They will learn about different muscle groups, how to build muscle and how to take care of their muscles. They will be ready physically for the next level of basketball.

Strength & Conditioning

13 & 14 Years Old

(Group 3)

Participants will learn many different calisthenics, lift weights, become more aware of their muscles and how to build muscle. They will be put in a daily fitness program that they will follow. The goal of the program is to help them reach the next level in basketball

 

Swimming

6-8 Years Old

(Group 1)

Teaching the fundamentals of swimming, along with loads of fun games and competitions. Pool safety is maintained to the highest level and taught through several safety drills which are constantly rehearsed throughout the session. Every camper is assigned their own level for swimming at the beginning of camp for Instructional and Safety purposes.

Swimming

10-12 Years Old

(Group 2)

More intense level of swim training, along with a higher amount of Swim Competitions, Water Polo games, and Basic Water Safety Instruction. Every camper is assigned their own level of swimming at the beginning of camp for Instructional and Safety purposes. Campers will begin to learn how to avoid or act in certain dangerous situations involving water.

Swimming 

13 & 14 Years Old

(Group 3)

More rigorous training involving Swimming and Aquatic Strength and Resistance. Workouts will focus mainly on swimming but also have Basketball oriented drills for strength and conditioning. Campers will also be assigned a level for swimming at the beginning of camp for Instructional and Safety purposes. Stronger focus on training, but will have plenty of Basic Water Safety training, as well as Water Polo and Volleyball Games.

Our full day camp is the ultimate athletic program for kids. Our program focuses on keeping your kids healthy and active all summer long with a focus on basketball and swimming.

Our state-of-the-art facility, located on the corner of Benson Avenue and 18th Avenue in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, boasts 44,000 sq ft of space for your kids to run, jump and play. Including an indoor roof top pool, basketball courts, clasrooms, and more.

Our Daily Schedule 

Our secure and safe facility will be your new home for the next few weeks. Participants will get to swim, play sports, and exercise every day during our athletic program – how cool is that?

The daily schedule is filled with non-stop action that’ll keep you on your toes. Each morning, get ready to be dropped off at our facility where you’ll meet your new friends and camp counselors.

You’ll then head to our gymnasium to prepare for the day ahead. Trust us; it’s going to be epic! Once you’re all set, it’s time to start the rotation.

Every day kids will rotate between three 1.5 hour periods to hone their skills and have a blast doing it. From basketball to swimming, we’ve got everything covered. And once the morning’s rotation is done, it’s time for lunch – yummy! After lunch jump back into the fun.

Il Centro Summer Program

FAQ’s

WHEN IS DROP OFF AND PICK UP?

Children must be dropped off at Il Centro Community center at 9am and picked up at 3pm.

DO YOU OFFER EARLY DROP OFF AND LATE PICK UP?

Yes, we offer an early drop off program from 8am–9am for $50 per week and a late pick up program from 3pm–4pm for $50 per week. Early drop off and late pick up must be selected at the time of registration.

DO YOU OFFER A SIBLING DISCOUNT?

No, we do not offer any discounts.

ARE THERE ANY REQUIREMENTS?

Yes, children are required to change themselves in our locker rooms. Our counselors cannot assist participants in the locker rooms. Children who cannot change themselves cannot join the program. Children must participate in all components of the program.

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO SWIM?

For participation in this program, it is essential that children can enter the pool independently and feel comfortable with water. It is not necessary that they already know how to swim. If they are not at ease in the pool, then they cannot join the program.

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE A MEMBER OF IL CENTRO TO PARTICIPATE?

No, non-members can register for our summer program beginning on April 6th, 2023.

DO I NEED TO REGISTER MY CHILD FOR ALL SESSIONS?

No, participants must register for a minimum two sessions.

WHEN IS PAYMENT DUE?

Full payment is due at the time of registration.

CAN MY CHILD SWAP WEEKS?

No, participants cannot change week after registration has closed on May 5th. Participants can cancel before May 5th to receive a full refund. Any cancellation after June 1st, including for illness or any other reason will result in a fee equal to the full value of the registered week(s).

CAN I CANCEL?

Participants can cancel before May 1st to receive a full refund (excluding the non-member registration fee). Participants who cancel after May 1st will be charge the full value their registered week(s).

WHY HAS THE PRICE INCREASED?

This year we are thrilled to offer a full 5-day program with expanded programing for our participants.

IS LUNCH PROVIDED?

Unfortunately, we do not provide lunch. Participants will have to bring their own lunch each day. We do not have any means of keeping food cold or heating it up. Additionally, we cannot accept deliveries or orders for lunch and our facility is a nut-free zone.
